The Cignal HD Spikers continued their domination of the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix as they swept the winless Meralco Power Spikers in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17, Saturday afternoon at the Cuneta Astrodome, Pasay city.
Unlike their previous games, Meralco was able to control their errors, tie-ing Cignal with 12. The Power Spikers’ difficulty lay in controlling Cignal’s imports. Ariel Usher continued her scoring spree, notching 24 points, 22 coming from attacks, and pitching in 2 blocks as well. Her partner in crime, Amanda Anderson contributed 11 points to Cignal’s cause, 10 via attacks. The two imports helped Cignal outspike Meralco by a whopping 18 points, 52-34.
Meralco, on the other hand, was led by Import Liis Kullerkann’s 11 points, all coming from attacks. Team captain Cha Cruz hand a double-digit scoring output with 10 points, 7 coming from spikes, 2 from blocks, and a service ace as well. Meralco’s other import, Christina Alessi, who didn’t see a second of action in Meralco’s loss to RC Cola, finally got to see some action on the court, dishing out 4 points for her team. Meralco missed the presence of their key setter, Kim Fajardo, and veteran Cyd Demecillo, both of who were busy competing in the UAAP Beach Volleyball competition. With the team trying to obtain their first win, it was evident that the team missed the contributions of both players, as no one else scored in double digits.
With the win, Cignal reigns on top of the standings with a 3-0 record, while Meralco digs themselves into a 0-4 record. Cignal will put their spotless record on the line when they face Foton on October 22, 2015, at 4:15 in the afternoon at the Cuneta Astrodome. Meanwhile, Meralco will attempt to get win number one when they go against Philips Gold on October 20, 2015, at 6:15 in the evening at the Cuneta astrodome.
