Everything felt new for Cha Cruz when she stepped on the sands to play beach volleyball.
After all, it has been 7 years since she last played the sport competitively.
The spiker known for steering De La Salle University to championships in the UAAP indoor volleyball tournaments in the past said the stint at the Philippine Super Liga Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup was an opportunity to learn more.
“Compared to Day 1 I think marami naman kaming na-adjust pero I think it’s just that mas experienced ang mga kalaban,” she said. “Marami silang league na nasasalihan and I think we need more exposure para magkaroon talaga ng chemistry. Nagkakapaan pa kami so we really need to do something.”
Cruz, who joined hands with Micmic Laborte in Cignal HD A, dropped its first two assignments to Giligan’s and Petron Sprint 4T, before coping a win over the Foton Hurricanes.
While the road was cut short, Cruz says it is only the beginning of her beach volleyball career in the semi-pro ranks, and adds she only needs to work on her game.
“Siguro kailangan kong mas habaan ang pasensya ko at magkaroon pa ng initiative. There is a lot of room for improvement para sa akin,” she said.
There is no stopping her from playing more even after the setback.
“Hindi naman ako mags-stop lang dahil natalo ako and all that. There is still a long way to go for me and kaya pa naman ng katawan ko.’
