Camille Claro bracing for bigger leadership role with Lady Archers

Coming into the season, Camille Claro was poised to step up as one of the backcourt leaders of the De La Salle University Lady Archers as the Taft side already lost some of its veterans.

Claro dealt with minor injuries when La Salle opened their UAAP Season 78 campaign, but slowly, the playmaker has reincorporated herself into the system as one of its chief backstoppers.

The diminutive guard played her finest game of the season yet when La Salle beat Adamson convincingly, 75-57 last Sunday. Claro dished out 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.

With such ability to involve her teammates on offense and court vision, Claro spearheaded the surge for the Lady Archers, which forced 36 Lady Falcon turnovers.

“Big game namin to kaya bibigay namin ang best namin para manalo and makuha yung second sa team standings,” she said.

“In the third quarter, coach told us ibigay na namin ang high intensity namin. Kung kailangan tambakan, tatambakan na. Hindi kami dapat magrelax.”

Claro admits there is still huge responsibility as one of the team’s leaders but she is doing everything she could to live up to expectations.

“Sobrang pressure sa akin, dahil sinasabi nila na ako (ang magiging leader) pero hindi naman ako nage-expect na ako. Offseason, ginagawa namin ang lahat para mag-improve kami individually and as a team,” she added.

“Kailangan namin maglaro as a team and yung leadership kailangan nasa point guard. Kung ano ang nakikita kong mas makabubuti yun ang gagawin ko.

With a healthy Claro in action, head coach Cholo Villanueva will be able to mix it up a little bit more with his lineup without having to suffice intensity on both ends.

And with such terrific feel for the game, Claro should be able to take her team to another dimension.
