Jameel McKay will be making his way back into the PBA.
The former Phoenix Fuel Masters reinforcement will be coming back to the Filipino pro league to suit up for Blackwater Elite, as he takes the place of the ailing Alex Stepheson.
The news was first reported by Gerry Ramos of Spin.ph Thursday.
This comes after Stepheson failed to come back to the country after flying to the US last week to seek treatment from his stomach ailment, as he has been infected with intestinal bacteria.
Stepheson missed Blackwater’s game versus San Miguel Beermen and the Elite got blown out, 127-106.
Stepheson was averaging 22.2 points, 22.0 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks before leaving. He was a big factor why the Elite started the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a 5-1 record.
McKay, on the other hand, is expected to arrive Friday, just a day before the Elite takes on a new-look NorthPort Batang Pier who will be parading new guys Sol Mercado, Jervy Cruz, and Kevin Ferrer.
The 26-year-old out of Iowa State was a solid performer for Phoenix back in 2017. In 11 games, he averaged 23.8 points, 17.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.1 blocks per game.
