After missing his first six shots, Santos went 8-for-12. He dropped 20 of his 22 points in the second half, where the Beermen outscored the Hotshots, 58-49.
“The reason for our surge in the second half was Arwind (Santos) and June Mar (Fajardo). They wanted to win,” San Miguel head coach Leo Austria said, crediting Santos for taking over.
“We know Arwind, may mga bad start yan eh. Sabi ko sa kanya keep on taking the shot as long as maganda yung shot selection. Maaga yung (ibang) mga tira niya, wala sa lugar. Pero when the game is on the line, kapag nate-threaten na yung team, alam naman natin ang kakayanan niya eh.”
The coach added that better decision-making from Santos would be a great difference-maker for the Beermen, citing the two championships they’ve won last season.
Santos plays a vital role with his ability to hit from long distance spacing the floor for San Miguel. Being consistent and sticking to just being effective instead of trying to do too much will be of great help for the Beermen.
“Sabi ko sa kanya you have to be consistent. We won two championships last season because of his outside shooting. Nagco-complement yun kay June Mar. And in time yung guards and wing man namin nao-open” Austria added.
“Kung masusustain niya ang magandang ginagawa niya, may mapupuntahan kami.”
