Angeline Colonia showed the way after breaking the world and Asian records en route to winning two golds and a silver medal in the women’s minus-40 kg category in the ongoing Asian Youth and Junior Championships, Sunday at the Yunusobod Sports Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Colonia bested the five-woman field with a total of 134 kg, a kilogram better than the Asian standard of 133. The 15-year-old initially lifted 62 kg in the snatch — a new World and Asian record before adding 72 kg in the clean and jerk for the gold-medal winning total.
Vietnam’s Duong Thi Kim Yen took the gold in the clean and jerk with 73kg, just a mere kilogram heavier than Colonia’s. She eventually collected the silver medal with a total of 129 kg.
India’s Kishor Akahksha Vyavhare placed third with a total lift of 125kgs (55kgs in the snatch and 70kgs in the clean and jerk).
On the other hand, Prince Keil Delos Santos pocketed two bronze medals in the youth men’s minus-49 kg category. He was fourth in the snatch (83kgs), third in the clean and jerk (103kgs), and was ranked third overall with a total of 186kgs.
Eleven more weightlifters are scheduled to compete led by reigning Asian champion Vanessa Sarno, who is set to participate in the women’s junior minus-71 kg.
