Upon review, the PBA has penalized San Miguel guard Alex Cabagnot for hitting RJ Jazul in the groin in Game Four of the San Miguel-Phoenix Pulse series in the 2019 Philippine Cup semifinals Tuesday.
Cabagnot incurred a PHP 20,000 bill from the league’s office.
The incident between the two guards happened late in the second quarter of the match, which SMB won, 114-91. Phoenix head coach Louie Alas then vehemently protested the call.
Alas was left seething as the referees called no fouls on Cabagnot. Meanwhile, the Fuel Masters lost Alex Mallari for a verbal altercation with Matt Ganuelas-Rosser due to the said incident.
The veteran tactician also claimed that Cabagnot’s sneaky hit on Jazul happened in front of a referee. He even asserted that he’s willing to send a tape to the league’s office to prove that it really happened.
Still, justice has been served for Alas and Phoenix with the hefty fine on the gunslinging guard.
But it’s not just Cabagnot who has to dish out money. Seven other players will have to pay for their respective infractions in Game Four, in which many whistles sounded.
Jaypee Mendoza got fined with PHP 6,600 for a flagrant foul penalty one and a tech; Ron Dennison with PHP 5,000 for a landing spot foul; Mallari PHP HP 2,600 for two techs; and Jason Perkins with PHP 1,500.
Kelly Nabong has been slapped with a fine of PHP 3,400 for incurring his fourth technical this conference, while Ganuelas-Rosser and Arwind Santos had PHP 1,600 fines each for technicals as well.
Game Five of the best-of-seven series will be tomorrow, Thursday, April 25, at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City. The Beermen have the opportunity to close it out as they lead, 3-1.
