Alaska picks up Bryan Faundo for rest of Govs’ Cup

Bryan Faundo looks set for a PBA comeback.

The veteran big man has signed with Alaska until the end of the 2021-22 Governors’ Cup, head coach Jeff Cariaso confirmed.

This comes after the Aces lost Rodney Brondial as he signed with San Miguel last January, which kickstarted the league’s free agency craze.

“Yes he signed with us until the end of the conference,” the seasoned mentor wrote in a short text message to Tiebreaker Times, Saturday.

Faundo, who will turn 38 on February 18, last played in the PBA in the 2020 Philippine Cup bubble at the Clark Freeport in Pampanga.

The 6-foot-6 big man out of Letran played for 10 games in a campaign that saw the Bolts barely miss the Finals, with averages of 2.4 points and 2,5 rebounds.

The sweet-shooting forward also had one of his best games in that conference, when he had 10 and 7 in a thrilling 95-93 win over Terrafirma.

His time with the team, however, would end the next year when he was included in the deal that saw Meralco send Baser Amer to Blackwater for Mac Belo.

Faundo did not sign with the Bossing, but received an invite Phoenix Super LPG for a tryout as the team looked at him to boost its frontcourt.

However, that didn’t pan out ideally as well due to an injury.

But it didn’t take long for him to be back in the hardwood. He signed with Bulacan for the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitationals last December.

Faundo averaged 16.4 points and 10.0 rebounds for the Kuyas.

Now, Faundo adds more experience to an Alaska frontcourt that has Abu Tratter, Yousef Taha, Ben Adamos, Rey Publico, and import Olu Ashaolu.
