Like their male counterparts, the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Paddlers, the Lady Paddlers failed to win a single match in the first round of eliminations for the UAAP Table Tennis Tournament at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.
ADMU vs NU (0-1)
The Lady Paddlers first day of eliminations presented a good match against National University Lady Bulldogs. Ateneo’s dela Cruz would begin her match up against NU’s Rodriguez with a 1st set loss. She would bounce back and beat Rodriguez in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th set matches, 12-10, 11-3, and 11-7 respectively. Dizon, on the other hand, started her match with wins for the 1st and 2nd set. NU’s Buendia would then rally and win the match for the Lady Bulldogs. NU would dominate in the doubles match, 3-0. Down 2-1, Balanzat tried to extend the match, but would only win the 2nd and 3rd sets.
ADMU vs AdU (0-2)
In the match-up against Adamson, the Lady Paddlers would draw first blood by snatching the first two games, behind L.Uy and J. dela Cruz. Uy swept her opponent, 11-6, 13-11, and 11-5. J. dela Cruz on the other hand would start strong with a 11-5, and 11-2 set wins but would give-up the 3rd and 4th sets. dela Cruz would give Ateneo their 2nd match-up win with an 11-4 5th set. Ateneo dropped the match after losing the next three straight games.
ADMU vs UST (0-3)
The match against University of Santo Tomas was a one sided affair, in which the Lady Paddlers did not get a single win.
ADMU vs DLSU (0-4)
The second day of the eliminations round was not great for the Lady Paddlers, as they face last year’s 1st runner-up the De La Salle University Lady Paddlers. Ateneo would surrender both the initial singles matches. Down 2-0, the doubles match participants, Dizon and Uy showed prowess by forcing their DLSU counter parts to a 5th and deciding set, where they would lose, two sets to three.
ADMU vs FEU (0-5)
The match against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws was very much the same as ADMU’s previous match. Ateneo, once again, dropped both their singles matches. The tandem of Dizon and Uy, trying to salvage a win, would only get 1 set.
ADMU vs UP (0-6)
Ateneo would be swept by their neighbours the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons. The Lady Paddlers look forward to the second round and hoping they’d finally seize a win.
