Adamson struggles to compete as Falcons fail to soar

The UAAP Season 78 Table Tennis tournaments have not been kind to Adamson University, as their Soaring Falcons and Lady Falcons failed to cope with their opposition in the first elimination round.

Soaring Falcons end the first round at 3-4

The Soaring Falcons earned a decent 3-4 record at the end of the first round, while the Lady Falcons only won one tie to end with a dismal 1-6.

Adamson defeated their opposites from the University of the Philippines, University of the East, and Ateneo de Manila University. They achieved a 3-1 win over the UP Fighting Maroons after the Soaring Falcons won the first two singles matches, 3-2 and 3-1, while the former won the doubles match 1-3. Adamson then maintained their composure to win the third singles match, 3-0.

The Soaring Falcons earned another 3-1 triumph versus the UE Red Warriors. It was similar to the victory against UP, with the first two singles matches won 3-1 apiece, while the doubles match required a comeback to end in a 3-2 win. A 3-0 victory in the third singles match sealed it for the Soaring Falcons.

The last win of the Soaring Falcons was a 3-0 sweep of the ADMU Blue Eagles.

The losses of the Soaring Falcons were from competitors deemed as potential title contenders. Defending champions De La Salle University defeated them with a score of 2-3. The University of Santo Tomas swept the Soaring Falcons 0-3, while the Far Eastern University also defeated them narrowly with a score of 2-3. The National University also won over them via a 0-3 sweep.

Lady Falcons flop completely

Unlike their male counterparts, the Lady Falcons never really got going and finished with a 1-6 record at the end of the first elimination round.

The Lady Falcons’ only win was at the expense of the Ateneo Lady Eagles, who also had the worst record with 0-8. The Lady Falcons won the first two singles matches, 3-2 and 3-0, only for the Lady Eagles to get two of their own with scores of 1-3 and 0-3. A 3-0 win at the fifth match granted the tie to Adamson with a scoreline of 3-2.

The remaining games were a painful read for the Lady Falcons and the Adamson community, as they lost 0-3 to defending champions DLSU, 1-3 to UP, FEU and UE, and (narrowly) 2-3 to NU.

With another round of games to go, both the Soaring Falcons and Lady Falcons hope that they fare somewhat better than their first round performances.
