Nothing but remorse for June Mar Fajardo after SMB’s Grand Slam hopes perish

June Mar Fajardo was inevitably disheartened on Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena, after the San Miguel Beermen’s Grand Slam aspirations died in a flash at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.

Nobody can blame the reigning three-time Most Valuable Player for feeling this way, as he and the Beermen had been gunning for a rare Grand Slam after they had lorded over the past two conferences.

“Ganun talaga. ‘Di naman mahihina yung kalaban e,” rued Fajardo after their 84-104 loss, in which he finished with 19 points and 22 rebounds. “Siyempre nakakalungkot kasi nandito na kami sa ganitong opportunity nag-slip pa.

“Isipin ko, kelan pa ba babalik yung ganitong opportunity? Malay mo, wala na next year.”

Wednesday night could not be more disheartening for the the fallen Beermen. But despite the unfortunate event, the season MVP and Best Player of the Conference frontrunner still did his best to look at the other side of the defeat.

“Move on na lang. Next conference babawi kami. Puwede kami makabuo ng history uli, four straight na All-Filipino,” shared the 27-year-old, who is averaged 18.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks this conference.

“Hindi naman kami laging nagcha-champion. Yung iba gusto rin mag-champion eh.”
