Boatwright-San Miguel reunion sparks push for back-to-back wins in PBA Comm’s Cup

San Miguel and Bennie Boatwright composed beautiful music together in their reunion after a couple of years, and they surely plan to do more of that in a bid to create another winning streak in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

The Beermen, together with the comebacking import, are looking to register back-to-back wins again when they take on a Blackwater side that’s been desperate to end a slump this Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Game time is at 5:15 p.m., with the traditional powerhouse keen on building off their dramatic 98-94 win over Cady Lalanne and NLEX last Sunday in Antipolo, in which they fought back from 15 down thanks to the 29-year-old’s efforts.

Back for another stint after the Justin Patton experiment failed, Boatwright dropped 41 points and 11 rebounds as he took over in the endgame to lead SMB in eventually snapping an uncharacteristic two-game losing slide.

Now, it’s about trying to sustain momentum entering their bout versus the Bossing, where they’re the faves according to the Casino Plus sportsbook.

Coach Leo Austria and his charges are seen to win by a big margin (-14.5), with the over/under in total points between the two teams set at 207.5.

Yes, the Bossing are underdogs yet again, and that’s because they’ve been in a four-game skid, with their most recent loss a 125-108 beating from Phoenix, which eventually allowed the latter to upend the erstwhile perfect Rain or Shine.

Aside from giving Pat Aquino his first win, Blackwater (1-6) is hoping to lay this dry spell to rest in an attempt to keep its slim playoff chances alive.

Set to clash at 7:30 p.m, on the other hand, are TNT and Converge in a battle that has some interesting layers aside from the fact that it’s going to be a battle between teams with somewhat differing purposes as to why they’re competing.

Of course, much of the attention will be on Bol Bol anew, especially after dropping a big 50-piece to help his side escape the struggling yet gutsy Titan Ultra in Montalban, 97-92, for their third successive victory in the tilt.

But over at the other side, fans and observers alike have their sights set on Mikey Williams, as the former Finals MVP will be meeting his former team for the first time since coming back to the PBA prior to the conference.

The former fourth overall pick enjoyed much of his success in the league with the Tropang 5G with two championships until that messy split in 2023, and so it’d be interesting to see how their first bout versus one another would play out.

But surely, his focus would be on trying to help the FiberXers rebound after their bid to win a second straight game got spoiled by Magnolia last Sunday in Antipolo, which, if they do, would keep their playoff hopes alive as well.

They’re currently at 2-6, meaning they have no other choice but to win as many games as they can in their remaining elimination round games. But they know it won’t be easy, with the first of a must-win against a hot TNT.

In fact, they’re the underdogs in the match as far as the Casino Plus sportsbook is concerned. The defending conference champions (5-2) are a favorite to win by -5 points, with the over/under in total points scored set at 203.5.

As it stands, the Tropa are sharing the third spot with Meralco and Ginebra, and a win against Converge shall create a tie with the 6-2 NLEX at no. 2.

Definitely, Coach Chot Reyes and his men would want that ideal scenario to become a reality as they’re also jockeying for position within the Top Four.Casinoplus-Bathala-and-Alden-Richards Boatwright-San Miguel reunion sparks push for back-to-back wins in PBA Comm's Cup Basketball News PBA - philippine sports news
