Mick Pennisi’s other commitment forces him to end 17-year career

The PBA loses another member of its 40-and-over club

After an amazing 17 year career in the PBA, 42-year-old Mick Pennisi has decided to set off into the sunset midway through the Globalport Batang Pier’s campaign in the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup.

“He’s going to Thailand. Nagpaalam na siya sa amin kasi matagal na naka-set yun,” shared Globalport team manager Bonnie Tan after the Batang Pier’s 99-109 loss to the NLEX Road Warriors, Sunday evening.

“Gusto pa sana namin na tapusin niya yung season pero sabi niya, di na talaga puwede.”

The 6-foot-11 stretch big man was one of the direct hires of the Red Bull franchise back in 2000.

With the Barako, he won three championships, the 2001 and 2002 Commissioner’s Cup and the 2005-06 Fiesta Conference. He won two more championships with the San Miguel Beermen in 2009 and in 2011.

Moreover, the Fil-Aussie was part of multiple National Teams.

He ends his career with averages of 7.5 points on 40.7 percent shooting from the field, 35.5 percent shooting from downtown and 5.3 rebounds.

Asi Taulava, Dondon Hontiveros, and Jayjay Helterbrand are the only remaining players in the PBA that are in the 40-and-over club.
