For keeping Pocari Sweat alive, Myla Pablo crowned as Philips Gold-PVL POTW

Thriving in games that mattered, Myla Pablo kept the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors’ hopes for a fourth straight V-League championship alive. And for doing so, Pablo earned the Philips Gold-PVL Press Corps Player of the Week for games played from August 2-6.

Pocari Sweat got a lifeline as they avoided elimination with a 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12 win over the Philippine Air Force in Game 2 of their semifinals series last Sunday.

Pablo came through with 20 attacks and two blocks to finish with 22 points and had 12 digs to power the Lady Warriors in tying the best-of-three series at one game apiece.

“Kinausap ko ‘yung team ko, sabi ko, ‘Ngayon pa ba tayo susuko? Ngayon pa ba tayo bibitaw? Lumaban naman tayo,’” Pablo recalled telling her teammates before a crucial fourth set.

It was a huge bounce-back victory for Pocari Sweat after last Saturday’s disappointing 20-25, 19-25, 20-25 loss in the semis opener.

The spiker hailing from Tarlac, Philippines led the Lady Warriors in Game 1 with 13 points and seven digs.

One of the leading contenders for the conference MVP honors, Pablo led all comers in scoring in the elimination round with 143 points on 128 spikes, 11 blocks, and four service aces.

The former National University star wound up second in spiking department with 39.75 percent success rating and No. 9 in blocking with 0.42 average per set.

Pablo bested Bali Pure’s Aiko Urdas and Creamline’s Rosemarie Vargas for the weekly honors.
