Estrella, Orquina grateful to have played in home soil

Mapua University Cardinals could have forced overtime had Andoy Estrella or Almel Orquina made their three point shots in the last 12 seconds, 63-60, in their home game against the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas, Thursday afternoon.

However, even with their fellows Mapuans cheering at the top of their lungs, both shots came off short.

The veteran, Estrella, and the sophomore, Orquina, were both regretful they missed the crucial shots in front of their schoolmates in the Mapua Gym.

“Paubos na rin kasi oras eh, yun na lang naisip ko eh, eh sumablay,” Estrella recounted.NCAA-93-UPHSD-MU-Orquina-1438 Estrella, Orquina grateful to have played in home soil Basketball MIT NCAA News - philippine sports news

Estrella finished the game with 11 points four rebounds and four assists while Orquina chipped in 10 markers, both clearly inspired with the “Let’s go Cardinals!” cheers that field the Mapua Gym. And although Mapua failed to bring home the W, they loved the experience of playing at their home gym.

“Sobrang saya, nakakataas ng balahibo nga pag sumisigaw sila eh. Last year ko na, sana maulit ‘to [home game],” recalled Estrella, who is in his final year of duty for Mapua.

“Sobrang solid para sa amin nito, sobra. Medyo nakakanerbyos. Sana wag sila magsawa sumuporta sa amin,” Orquina added.

“Sana kahit natalo kami suportahan pa rin nila kami kahit hindi dito yung game,” Estrella closed. – By: Danine Cruz
