Women’s Team looking at two-week Japan camp; Daquis steps down from pool

The Women’s National Volleyball Team is banking on a near two-week training camp in Japan as their primary preparation for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games and the 2017 Asian Women’s Seniors Championship in August.

Earlier today, PSL President and ranking AVC official Ramon “Tats” Suzara addressed the 14-woman team at the Arellano Law School gym in Manila. He emphasized the importance of the training in Japan as a gauge for the team’s condition and overall chemistry.

“In Japan, we will be able to train and play against great opponents. I think we will find ourselves there as a team and our time together will help develop our chemistry,” Suzara said.

The Women’s Team have had difficulty with attendance in their trainings due to commitments with ongoing club leagues.

In Japan, the team will have ample to bond. They will fly out to Japan on July 17 and will hold camps at Kobe and Okayama before returning on August 2.

“Magiging maganda for us kasi nga hindi kami kumpleto lagi sa trainings. Pagdating sa Japan, we’ll have our full focus and attention sa improvement namin as a team. For sure malaki ang maitutulong noon,” said skipper Mika Reyes.

“We’ll be working on everything siguro kasi we know that we have a lot to improve on many aspects. But just the time we’ll get as a team will be very crucial and valuable,” added the team’s libero Denden Lazaro.

On the same address, Suzara announced that Rachel Daquis has officially stepped down as one of the reserves and will be replaced by F2 Logistics opposite hitter Kianna Dy.
