Alas Women get balanced Pool A draw in AVC Women’s Cup

Alas Pilipinas received a relatively manageable draw for the upcoming 2026 AVC Women’s Cup after landing in Pool A of the tournament set from June 6 to 14 in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The Philippines, coming off a historic silver medal finish in the previous edition of the tournament—then still known as the Nations Cup—after falling to host Vietnam in the final, is looking to build on that breakthrough and push for an even stronger campaign on the continental stage.

Alas is the third-highest ranked team in Pool A at No. 46 in the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Ranking.

They will be joined by Chinese Taipei (No. 37), South Korea (No. 40), Kyrgyzstan (No. 60), Australia (No. 73), and Uzbekistan (No. 87).

Meanwhile, World No. 28 Vietnam and No. 35 Kazakhstan headline Pool B.

Completing Pool B are Iran (No. 47), Indonesia (No. 70), Hong Kong (No. 81), and unranked Lebanon.

The draw was held at the Diamond Hotel and attended by AVC President Ramon “Tats” Suzara, PSC Chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio, PNVF President Anthony “Tony Boy” Liao and Treasurer Ricky Palou, along with Candon City Mayor Eric Singson.

Also in attendance were Alas players Thea Gagate and Leila Cruz.
