Michael Myers, TNT Katropa’s insurance for Joshua Smith, was a surprising presence at the Meralco Gym on Thursday night during Gilas Pilipinas’ resumption of practices as they gear up for upcoming tournaments abroad.
“It was great today,” remarked the six-foot-nine, 245-pounder regarding the session he had with the Nationals.
“Everybody went over, did some great things game-wise. It was great.”
Myers coming over wasn’t just a simple invitation, though. Gilas head coach Chot Reyes already has a plan for the wide-bodied yet agile American — they are already eyeing to field him in the 2017 William Jones Cup in Taiwan.
“If things materialize, we’re thinking of bringing him with us in the Jones Cup,” disclosed the 53-year-old mentor regarding the possibility of bringing in the New Jersey native for the regional meet.
And with that, the 24-year-old is more than willing to play for the Philippines if given the opportunity; he is ready to be of help for Gilas whenever they need it.
“If that’s what they want me to be, I’ll be ready to play here. I’ll be ready to help and show my talent,” said the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. “I’ll be ready to suit up. Like I said, I’ll be ready — practice with the team, I’ll be ready for the games.
“I’ll be here to help out this team.”
