V-League stars unite for a cause

United for a cause, the stars of the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 put on a show for their loyal fans.

Proving that the Filipino’s spirit of generosity is stronger than any storm, star-studded Team Palaban outshone Team Puso 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22 in front of a crowd gathered to help support the victims of Typhoon Lawin.

“Para sa amin, masaya na kamin nakatulong kami sa kapwa namin kahit sa maliit lang na paraan na ‘tong. As a player, malaking bagay na malaman na sa paglalaro lang namin, makakatulong kami kahit papaano sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo,” said Team Palaban’s Cherry Rondina who stoof out with her 13 points and four pre-serve and pre-attack cartwheels.

Joining Rodina in Team Palaban were her UST teammate Ria Meneses, the pillars of Pocari Sweat’s Golden Double Michele Gumabao, Melissa Gohing, Myla Pablo and Gyzelle Sy, Collegiate Conference Best Setter Jia Morado, and Bali Pure’s Amy Ahomiro.

“It’s always great to help those in need especially ngayong we’re heading into the Christmas season. It’s very unfortunate what our fellow countrymen go through so I hope we were able to help them. Also, it’s great to get together with my fellow players and play for the fans,” expressed Team Puso stalwart Alyssa Valdez who dished out 12 points.

Air Force’s Jocemer Tapic provided 14 markers for the losing side. Other key Team Puso members were UST’s Ej Laure, Pocari Sweat’s Elaine Kasilag, Bali Pure’s Dzi Gervacio, and UP’s Nicole Tiamzon.

Before the match, there was a meet and greet with the fans. Special trophies were handed out after the match.

Three-time SVL MVP, Valdez hopes that the All-Star event becomes a yearly tradition and continues to expand.

“For sure, we’re gonna want to this again. Just to make everyone happy was a huge blessing for us. Hopefully, the event and the league continues to grow,” she shared.

All the proceeds of the event will go to the victims of Typhoon Lawin through the ABS CBN Foundation.
