La Salle’s blowout of Ateneo inspires Teng to get back

King Archer Jeron Teng missed the first Ateneo-La Salle game of his storied five-year stay in Taft Avenue. But even without the league’s fourth leading scorer, the De La Salle University Green Archers played arguably their best all-around game of the season, lambasting rivals Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 97-81.

Sitting with his teammates on the bench and with a walking boot, Teng shared that he had enjoyed watching his teammates churn out the team’s seventh win of the season.

“It was really a good game and it’s really fun seeing my teammates having fun inside the court,” the 22-year-old shared.

“Siyempre, medyo nainggit ako, gusto ko sana maglaro. Pero yun nga, parang na-inspire ako sa kanila kasi nag-enjoy lang sila.”

However, La Salle’s sensational play only gave Teng the itch to return faster.

“I just can’t wait to come back,” admitted Teng, who has just finished treatment for bone spurs on his left heel.

La Salle’s captain said that he had needed the surgery because it was giving him great discomfort. Moreover, he just wants to end his UAAP career healthy and ready to go.

But Teng is hopeful that he can return next weekend when La Salle start their second round campaign.

“Next game makakalaro na ako hopefully. Actually, bukas pa lang ako magpapa-checkup. Hindi ko pa alam, babalik pa lang ako bukas.

“I just want to be 100 percent pagdating ng crucial games ng second round tsaka pagtapos ng second round,” he added optimistically.
