Pocari, BOC reach buyout agreement on Vargas contract

The three-week long saga between open hitter Rose Vargas and her former team Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors has reached a conclusion.

The Lady Warriors have penned a buyout that officially sends the former UAAP Best Scorer to the Bureau of Customs Transformers for the upcoming Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference.

Pocari Sweat team manager Atty. Eric Anthony Ty told Tiebreaker Times earlier today about the eleventh-hour deal struck between him and BOC’s legal department to secure Vargas’ services for the tournament, which kicks off tomorrow at the PhilSports Arena.

“Customs offered us a price for Rose which they deem is sufficient based on their valuation of her.

“After due deliberation and based on her ability to contribute to my team for another championship run, I deemed it a fair valuation of her market value as a player,” said Ty.

When asked about the specifics of Vargas’ valuation, Ty declined to comment, citing a Non-Disclosure Agreement in the buyout.

Vargas’ buyout comes after reports had emerged earlier this month that she had jumped ship to the newly-formed BOC Transformers. Vargas, however, was still under contract with the Open Conference champions that ran until the end of November.

According to Ty, they were willing to let Vargas’ contract run its course despite her missing numerous practices.IMG_3459-SVL-PSW-vs.-IRI-Vargas Pocari, BOC reach buyout agreement on Vargas contract News PVL Volleyball - philippine sports news

Luckily, the Bureau of Customs were willing to negotiate for Vargas’ services.

“We wish Ms. Vargas Luck and hope she finds the starting position she craves in Customs,” Ty said about the 26-year-old hitter.

Vargas joins a loaded Customs team with three-time UAAP MVP Alyssa Valdez, former Navy Lady Corvettes Pau Soriano, and Lilet Mabbayad, and two Thai imports.
