Fighting Maroons sweep Soaring Falcons for fourth straight win

The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons continued its impressive winning run to four after blanking Adamson University, 5-0, Saturday morning at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.

Fifth-year player Miggy Leonardo started the rout with short work of Elben Concha in two games, 21-8, 21-9, in the first singles match. The graduating Maroon shook of a tight start against the opposition and breezed past the latter from the middle stages of both games.

In the second singles match, Gerloth Delizo stunned UP team co-captain CK Clemente in the opening game with a comfortable 21-15 win. Nonetheless, the fourth-year Maroon fended off the challenge and took the following two games convincingly, 21-6, 21-12.

It was the same story in the first doubles match as Vinci Manuel and Wakee Deato escaped past Joshua Antonio and Concha in the first game despite the errors, 21-13. The San Marcelino duo then pounced on these miscues to take the second game to force a decider, 21-18. The Maroons then controlled the deciding game and Deato downed a smash, which Adamson tried to return but instead went straight to the net, ending the game at 21-13. With this Falcon error, the Maroons registered their fourth consecutive win of the season.
