Generika Lifesavers bucked a slow start to send down Amy’s Spikers in four sets, 24-26, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-14 in their 2016 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference encounter Saturday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Chlodia Cortez led the Lifesavers with 17 markers on 13 spikes. Marivic Meneses had 15, while Wensh Tiu added 11.
“Yun ang sinasabi namin kanina sa mga players, na okay lang magkaroon sila ng kumpiyansa ‘wag lang sobra,” said Generila assistant coach Jeffrey Drio, on his team dropping the opening set
Amy’s Spikers triumphed in the tight opening set, 26-24, but failed to sustain momentum in the second set that allowed Generika to pull away and grab the frame, 26-14, with Genevieve Casugod and Wensh Tiu leading the way.
The team in maroon was on track in the third set, 11-7, but that proved to be their last taste of the lead as Casugod, Tiu, and Ria Meneses helped Generika crawl from behind and take a 2-1 set lead, 25-19.
It was in the fourth and final set wherein the Life Savers pulled away for good, establishing a 16-5 lead to bury Amy’s. The latter chipped in points off errors, but Generika held on to the lead and walked away victorious, 25-14.
“Kasi yun ang nagiging sakit minsan ng mga players ‘pag alam nilang kaya nila kalaban nila, so ang nagiging resulta natatalo sa isang set,” the team’s assistant coach furthered.
Team Captain Rubie De Leon contributed 26 excellent sets for Generika as well.
Amy’s was paced by Cindy Imbo with 9.
