Red Lions whitewash Blazers in 27 point rout

The San Beda College Red Lions pounced on the hapless College of Saint Benilde Blazers in a 90-63 rout, Friday afternoon at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

Davon Potts continued his stellar campaign with 19 points on an 8-for-16 shooting clip. Donald Tankoua recorded a double-double as well, with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Robert Bolick and Radge Tongoco added 11 markers apiece.

“The beauty of this team is that even when we lost our best point guard, we are still playing well,” said San Beda head coach Jamike Jarin. “It shows that we have a deep team and they are always ready to play.”

The Red Lions immediately pounced on the Blazers in the opening frame, gaining a 24-to-10 lead.

The lead grew to as high as 20 points in the second quarter behind Potts’ and Javee Mocon’s 20 combined points. Moreover, the Blazers lost third-year big man Christian Fajrito with 55.6 ticks remaining in the half after he accidentally stepped on the foot of fellow big man Clement Leutcheu.

Benilde never stood a chance in the second half, as the lead ballooned to a game-high 27 points late in the fourth period.

“Right now, we are dedicated on playing as a team on defense and hitting the open man,” Jarin said, as his team assisted on 17 of Beda’s 29 made field goals. Moreover, they were able to limit Benilde to a horrid 30 percent shooting clip while forcing 36 turnovers as well.

Clement Letcheu was the sole bright spot for the Blazers, scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 boards. Yankee Haruna added 17 points.
