The UST Lady Jins opened their season against an under staffed NU team. According to NU’s student coordinator Jose Miguel Cagalingan, the NU Lady Bulldogs were not able to field a jin for middleweight-heavyweight division as their jin was not able to make weight in time for the tournament thus leaving an automatic match-win for every opponent the Lady Bulldogs face this season.
Colleen Heria, replacing Korina Paladin in the flyweight division for this season, soundly defeated Crystal Faith Hukom 11-7 to open the UAAP Season 77 Women’s Taekwondo tournament. Last year’s finweight silver medalist Korina Paladin scored another win for the Tigresses with a 12-6 win over Angela Loren. Jamaica Karen de Guzman, a replacement for Philippine team member Abigail Cham overwhelmed Rheza Aragon 11-2 to seal the series for UST. Shiryl Habol defeated Bianca Go in the 2nd round of their featherweight bout by having a huge 15-1 to win via point gap. NU’s Rhezie Aragon and UST’s Arriane Asegurado would win their respective matches.
