Gilas Girls maul Thailand, set up unbeaten showdown with Indonesia in SEABA


Gilas Pilipinas Girls extended their winning streak to three games in the 2026 FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers after dismantling Thailand, 86-48, on Thursday at the STI West Negros University Gym in Bacolod.

The Philippines has been dominant throughout the tournament, opening its campaign with a 93-42 rout of Vietnam before defeating Singapore, 83-53.

For the third straight game, every Gilas player found her way onto the scoresheet. Lea Pinuela led the charge this time with 16 points on 50-percent shooting, along with five rebounds and two assists.

Ruiza Olmos was flawless from the field, going 5-of-5 for 11 points in just 13 minutes of action.

Tiffany Reyes and Zia Oñate added nine points apiece, with Oñate also contributing five assists and three rebounds.

Sophia Dignadice finished with eight points and eight assists, Zaydhen Rosano chipped in seven points, while Rhiane Perez posted six points and 10 rebounds.

Unlike its first two outings, Gilas imposed its will from the opening tip and never looked back.

The Filipinas stormed to a 14-2 start and built a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Gilas continued to tighten the screws defensively, limiting Thailand to just nine points in the third period to stretch its advantage to 67-33 heading into the final quarter.

Thailand failed to produce a double-digit scorer in the loss, dropping to 0-2 and remaining tied with Singapore at the bottom of the standings.

Kanyaphat Hookee and Paweetida Chanasimma paced Thailand with nine points each.

Gilas will enjoy a rest day before facing fellow unbeaten Indonesia on Saturday in a matchup that will the determine the region’s champion.

Earlier in the day, Indonesia cruised past Vietnam, 81-32, to improve to 2-0.

Richelle Widjaja led the Indonesians with 14 points, while Mabekou Talla Valerie recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Praisey Blessed also filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

Vietnam fell to 1-2 following the defeat.
