PBA Commissioner Atty. Chito Narvasa and Board of Governors Chairman Robert Non spoke to members of the press Sunday to discuss the league re-hiring marketing head Rhose Montreal.
Montreal had tendered her resignation earlier this month amidst alleged falsification of documents, although the league had decided to re-hire Montreal based on her exemplary performance as the PBA’s marketing head.
Montreal’s hiring is on a six-month probationary basis, and the league shall decide after the period based on her performance and other factors whether to extend her stay or not.
“We will consider other applicants. Titingnan naman natin eh how the performance is,” Non said.
Asked about the possibility of concerned citizens deciding to file a case against Montreal, Narvasa said they are free to do so, but Montreal “is also free to defend herself in the same manner the PBA is free to defend itself. … Lahat naman tayo.”
Non also said comments about the PBA “underperforming” in the recent years have no basis and as far as revenue is concerned, he does not think the league is underperforming.
“Kasi walang parameters eh, (but) let’s respect the comments or suggestions. If the league is (underperforming) then why are there teams interested in joining even up to now?,” Non said.
Narvasa added as far as the league’s growth is concerned, the PBA does regular assessments.
“Meron naman kaming ginagawa, actually after this conference is top come up ng first evaluation and then how to improve. Yun ang plano. Para (people) can understand what will happen,” Narvasa said.
