Yeo curious about decline in minutes, says decision to bench him ‘weird’

Globalport wing man Joseph Yeo was in uniform for the Batang Pier on Sunday but was not fielded against the Blackwater Elite, a game which Globalport lost, 115-103.

Yeo also did not suit up when Globalport lost to Meralco earlier in the conference. Overall, his minutes have dipped from 27.6/game in the Philippine Cup to only 18.5/game in the on-going Commissioner’s Cup.

Later after the Blackwater game, Yeo spoke to the press to clarify issues regarding him.

Having been traded several times in the past, Yeo says nothing is final yet until an actual trade happens, and that he is still professional towards his team.

“Nakita ko rin (yung article) pero sanay na ako sa trade diba, so (unless) andiyan na (yung trade), wala pa rin, so nagpapractice pa rin ako (sa Globalport), professional lang ako sa team ko and positive lang ako diba. Sinusuportahan ko lang sila,” Yeo said of a report.

On Saturday, Spin.ph reported that “all signs point” to Globalport wing man Joseph Yeo getting traded again, quoting Batang Pier team owner Mikee Romero’s Facebook post.

“With the emergence of Paolo Taha, Jonathan Uyloan and new recruit Jeric Fortuna, 1 of our old veteran players who is playing very poorly will spend more time in the bench … I hope he can still find a team that would want him. (Clue: We gave away a first round pick to get this player and sad to say, we are banging our heads now),” Romero’s post read.

Regarding the decline in minutes and the coaching staff’s decision not to field him anew, Yeo claimed he felt curious, although added he respects the team’s decision.

“Ewan ko, wala namang sinasabi coaches sakin eh. Curious din ako, bakit hindi na ako ginagamit. Sabi sa akin ni coach Pido (Jarencio), diskarte niya ‘yun. So ako, okay lang. Diskarte niya yun, nirerespeto ko lang yung desisyon,” Yeo shared.

“Sa teammates ko wala naman akong problema. Pero ewan ko lang sa coaches, kasi parang weird diba, parang bigla na lang nila sasabihin diskarte nila diba, kita mo naman wala na kaming players,” Yeo added, pertaining to Stanley Pringle, who is still recovering from a sprain, and Terrence Romeo, who played hurt in the second half of the game against Blackwater with a sore right calf.

Yeo added he is happy about the younger backcourt players getting more exposure and improving each game.

“At least happy ako, nakikita ko yung iba nags-step up, sina Paolo (Taha), Jonathan (Uyloan), at least positive ako nakikita ko lumalabas yung laro nila.”
