ONE Spirit of Champions main card fighter and Chinese mixed martial artist Yang Jian Bing passed away late Friday afternoon.
Yang was supposed to face Team Lakay’s Geje Eustaquio in a flyweight bout. Yang had to pullout of the bout due to heat exhaustion and dehydration according to a Facebook post by Eustaquio.
Late Friday afternoon, Tiebreaker Times was informed that Yang had passed away. In a tribute by ONE Championship Chief Executive Officer Victor Cui, he said that “There is nothing more profoundly tragic and sad than when a member of the ONE Championship family, current or past, passes away.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Yang Jian Bing. We will work closely with the family and offer all the support they need in any way we can during this very difficult time. Yang passed away this afternoon. The cause of death is still being determined.”
Yang compiled a 5-1 record in his young mixed martial arts career. He was 21 years old.
Victor Cui assure Tiebreaker Times that the Spirit of Champions card is dedicated to their fallen fighter and a moment of silence will be held in Yang’s honor.
