Randy Braga scored a TKO victory in yesterday’s edition of “Boxing Kontra Droga” card held at the Ballroom of Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.
A local scene standout, holding titles in both the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) and Philippine Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) at featherweight and superfeatherweight respectively, the 27-year old southpaw dropped journeyman Jiro Merlin with a left hook to end the fight at 1:27 mark of the second frame of their scheduled ten round non-title fight.
This gives Braga his 17th career win and his 4th via stoppage, while Merlin absorbs his 10th straight loss since winning in Butuan City against Randy Megrino more than two years ago.
In the other main event bout, Jeffrey “Tsunami” Fransisco earned a majority decision victory over Eric Panza of Baguio City in their ten round fight.
Fransisco took control of much of the fight thanks to his accurate jabs, that not only stifled his opponent but also shut his left eye that was aggravated in the later rounds. Despite the damage suffered however, Panza managed to land hard shots and held his own.
The fight ended with a score of 95-95, 96-94 and 96-94.
Also in the card, Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation number 5 ranked Kenichi Yamaguchi scored a late knockout against Butuan City’s Dondon Navarez in a very entertaining matchup.
Yamaguchi knocked down Navarez with a right body shot in the sixth canto in a fight that saw both fighters exchanging leather from the get go. The Japanese veteran improves his record to 19-3-2 and sends his opponent down to 12-22-7.
