The Globalport Batang Pier leaned on the heroics of their two star guards to defeat Barako Bull Energy, 105-91 in overtime Sunday in the 2015-16 PBA Philippine Cup at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.
Stanley Pringle continued his inspired play in the season, this time scoring 19 points to go with 17 rebounds and 6 assists. Terrence Romeo, battling a flu, led his team in scoring with 21 points, shooting better from the three-point area at 3-for-7.
JC Intal knocked down a game-tying jumper towards the end of regulation which sent the game to extension, but the Batang Pier opened overtime on fire, outscoring the Energy 20-6 overall.
In overtime, and with the game tied at 87-all, Romeo went on a 5-0 spurt to give GlobalPort a five-point edge with 2:14 remaining. Jay Washington converted on another triple a minute later that helped the Green and Black pull-away from their opponents.
The Batang Pier improved to 2-1 in a three-way tie from third to fifth while the Energy dropped to 1-2 early in the conference standings.
Globalport outrebounded Barako, 65-37 and also had more assists, 22-16.
Intal led Barako with 17 points; Willie Wilson added 14 points while Chico Lanete and Jervy Cruz added 13 apiece.
