Lady Spikers nab fifth straight win, keep Lady Warriors winless

Displaying their full offensive artillery, the Lady Spikers breezed through the struggling UE Lady Warriors in three sets, 25-6, 25-17, 25-17 at the MoA Arena.

The Lady Spikers showed they were in a totally different class right from the start, pushing out advantages in all the offensive categories, out-spiking (39-20), out-blocking (6-0), and out-serving (9-2 aces) the Lady Warriors.

The Lady Spikers relentlessly tore through the lowly Lady Warriors right from the first point. Though only recording two block kills, DLSU had no problem deflecting and sending UE’s attacks back to their side of the net. UE did not do themselves any favors as well, giving up seven errors while the Lady Spikers had only three. UE’s six points in the set ties their lowest output of the season, a floor they reached in their first round meetings with the Lady Falcons and the Lady Spikers.

The Lady Warriors put up a better fight in the second set, breaking double digits in scoring and putting up nine spike kills. But the Lady Spikers just had too many weapons for the girls from Recto to deal with. La Salle dished out 14 spike kills in the set with four aces, two coming from team captain Ara Galang.

The Lady Spikers finally fielded all of their players for the season, playing rookie Aduke Ogunsanya for the first time in the final set with third year player Justine Tiu. The Lady Warriors hung tough for the first time this season against the Lady Spikers, taking a brief 11-10 lead. But it was downhill from there for UE, as they gave up five errors in the ensuing points, eight overall in the third set.

Veterans Galang and Mika Reyes led the charge for DLSU, each recording 10 points apiece. Senior open spiker Cyd Demecillo pitched in nine points while Desiree Cheng had six markers.

UE’s Angelica Dacaymat continued her solid play, leading her team with nine points while team captain Shaya Adorador pitched in five markers.

The Lady Spikers continue their winning streak with an 11-1 record while the Lady Warriors are still winless. The Lady Spikers will face the Adamson Lady Falcons at the San Juan Arena on Feb. 15 while the Lady Warriors have the defending champs on the same day.

The scores:

DLSU – Galang 10, Reyes 10, Demecillo 9, Cheng 6, Fajardo 5, Cerveza 5, Baron 3, Tiu 3, Ogunsanya 2, Dy 1, Macandili (L) 0, Cruz Ci. (L) 0

UE – Dacaymat 9, Adorador 5, Dawis 4, Manansala 2, Baliton 1, Alcayde 1, Bendong 0, Ponon 0, Juanillo 0, Arado (L) 0
