Oliver Almadro confirms talks with LVPI to coach Men’s National Team

With national team season in full swing, the rumor mill has been churning non-stop over the past few days.

One rumor is that decorated Ateneo de Manila University head coach Oliver Almadro is returning to call the shots for the Philippines Men’s National Volleyball Team.

Almadro mentored the men’s team in the 2015 SEA Games and the Asian U-23 in Myanmar.

However, Almadro denies reports that he has already been given the position.

“Yes, I just had a meeting with LVPI. But, no formal appointment yet,” the feisty tactician told Tiebreaker Times. “Let’s pray for the best. God bless!”

Almadro is one of the most decorated tacticians in Men’s Volleyball today.

He steered the once-floundering Ateneo men’s volleyball program to three straight UAAP championships from Season 77 to 79. In the V-League, he has won five championships as well, three for Ateneo and two for the Cignal HD Spikers — he and Roger Gorayeb are the only head coaches in league history to win the triple crown.

Last year, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas coach Sammy Acaylar took charge of the Men’s National Team program. While they performed valiantly, the nationals failed to make it to the podium in the SEA Games.
