Prince Orizu called up by Nigeria for Commonwealth Games

Far Eastern University Tamaraws’ foreign student-athlete Prince Orizu has been called up by the Nigerian Basketball Federation to be a part of their national team for the upcoming XXI Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia this April.

The news was first delivered by Nigerian-based basketball news site titansbasketbal.com last March 13.

The 6-foot-10 Orizu was included in the final line-up made by the NBBF, which features six Nigeria-based cagers and six foreign-based players. The Nigerians will have former NBA veteran Ike Diogu as their team captain.

Orizu posted norms of 7.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks back in the UAAP Season 80, where he helped the Tamaraws finish in fourth place. He will play his final year of eligibility in Season 81.

Orizu and Nigeria, the 2017 FIBA Afrobasket silver medalists, will battle 69 other countries in the quadriennial meet among Commonwealth Nations that includes Australia, South Africa, Canada, Singapore, and Cameroon.

The Nigerian team, according to titansbasketbal.com, will fly to Australia on March 23, ahead of their first game on April 6. The XXI Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4-15.
