Four-peat seeking Philippines made quick work of Malaysia, needing just five innings to take a dominant 21-1 win to open the XIII BFA East Asian Cup on Saturday at Baseball Stadium Queen Sirikit Sports Center in Pathum Thani Province in Thailand.
It was a dominant win for the Filipino batters, who connected 14 times in the contest.
The floodgates opened in the second inning when Malaysia’s pitcher kept walking the Filipino players.
Third baseman Jenald Pareja then blasted a three-RBI double to left field, highlighting a wild nine-run inning.
Pareja had four RBIs in the game, going perfect at-bat.
Also having multiple RBIs in the game were Kyle Villafana, Steven Manaig, and Paulo Macasaet.
The game was finally put to an end after the Philippines punched eight more runs in the fourth inning while pinning the Malaysians down in the fifth inning.
National University product Junmar Diarao pitched three innings in the game, allowing no hits while striking out four Malaysians.
Diarao relieviers were Kobe Torres and Clarence Caasalan.
The Philippines will next face Cambodia on Sunday.
