In the seven games they have played in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirant’s Cup, it looks like Chélu-San Sebastian has finally found their groove as they have earned their second straight win over Go For Gold-St. Benilde Tuesday.
This has been the Revellers’ first winning streak in the many games they have played. And for forward Michael Calisaan, it’s all happening thanks to their improved team chemistry.
“Nagge-gel na talaga yung team ngayon eh,” shared the 22-year-old after their 85-67 victory. “Yung pina-practice namin more on teamwork, kaya siguro ayun, [noon] medyo bago yung team pero ngayon two straight wins na kami.
“Sana magtuloy-tuloy pa.”
After going 2-3 early in the conference, the Revellers have now improved to 4-3, moving to two to three games away from the quarterfinals. With the way they are playing right now, Calisaan is confident that they can get the job done.
“Tingin ko kaya naman namin lahat eh, basta magtulong-tulong lang kami,” said Calisaan, who had 13 points and 10 rebounds against the Scratchers. “Sumunod lang kami sa gameplan ni coach, tsaka maglaro kami as a team.
“Play as a group, play as one.”
Che’lu is now down to their last four games in the eliminations, and their next match would be against title favorites Zark’s Burger-Lyceum. It may be a daunting task, but Calisaan is beyond excited to face the Jawbreakers.
In the NCAA, Calisaan and the Golden Stags were 0-2 against the Pirates, falling in the first round 79-83 and in their second encounter 73-78.
“Gusto ko talaga matalo [sila] eh. ‘Di pa kami nananalo sa Lyceum,” rued Calisaan, as San Sebastian has seemingly been struck by the Lyceum curse, which has been haunting them from the NCAA all the way to the PCCL.
“So sana, sana. Magtatrabaho kami para diyan.”
And if San Sebastian will be able to end that losing skid versus the NCAA Season 93 runners-up, it will be the best birthday gift Calisaan will receive, as the Zark’s-Che’lu clash will take place on his birthday at February 27.
