For the first time in program history, the Arellano University Lady Chiefs sealed consecutive NCAA championships, completing a sweep of the Season 93 Finals after slamming the San Beda University Lady Red Spikers in Game Two, 25-13, 29-27, 25-15, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
After dominating the first set, the Lady Chiefs leaned on the late heroics of Season 93 Best Opposite Spikers Regine Arocha to rally back in a tightly-contested second set. The Lady Chiefs then blitzed the Lady Red Spikers in the third set, taking a 16-5 lead and never looking back.
Arellano took their third title in four years, only losing one match the entire season.
“Napakasaya kasi, nagbunga, ‘yung program namin. Malking bagay sa amin na masuklian ‘yung suporta sa amin ng admin,” said Obet Javier, Arellano’s head coach in each of their championship years.
Arocha, this year’s Finals Most Valuable Player, tallied 15 points with 12 digs and 12 excellent receptions. In her final match in the NCAA, Jovielyn Prado poured in 15 points.
Cesca Racraquin topped the Lady Red Spikers with 13 points, while Nieza Viray added eight markers. San Beda setter Rebecca Cuevas played her final year for the Lady Red Spikers, tossing 28 excellent sets. San Beda finished with silver medals, their best outcome in NCAA history.
Middle blocker Andrea Marzan and Jovielyn Prado finished their NCAA careers.
