Altas remain undefeated, sweep Golden Stags

Despite a whopping 31 errors, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas had enough firepower to overwhelm the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags in straight sets, 25-18, 25-23, 25-23, to remain on top of the NCAA Season 93 standings at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Silver medalists last season, the Altas had no problem getting through the Golden Stags’ defense. But their erratic serving and attacking became problematic latter in the match, rued head coach Sammy Acaylar.

“Gusto ko kasi sa mga player ko na ganado sila lagi, may killer ba instinct ba kapag nasa court,” said the decorated mentor.

“Nasobrahan lang siguro kanina sa aggresiveness pero, that’s okay. Mas madaling ituro sa bata na kontrolin ang sarili nila kesa pilitin mo silang maging aggresive,” Acaylar furthered.

Perpetual dismantled the Stags with attacks, tallying 42 to SSC’s 25. They also were a respectable 40% on reception.

Team captain Rey Taneo towed the Altas’ balanced attack with 14 points. PJ Ramos and Ronniel Rosales pitched in 13 points, apiece.

Jhair Ebrahim was the lone bright spot for the Stags, scoring 16 markers.

The Altas (3-0) stake their unbeaten start on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre when they face the Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-1). The Stags (1-2) will take on the defending champs College of Saint Benilde (2-0) on Friday, also at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
