As expected, Bryan Bagunas and Marck Espejo will spearhead Alas Pilipinas’ historic campaign in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, following the release of the final roster by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) on Wednesday.
Curiously absent from the lineup is Filipino-American Steven Rotter, who had been part of the national team’s buildup since last year.
Both returning from injuries, Bagunas and Espejo — the two brightest stars of Philippine men’s volleyball — are set to lead the Nationals in Pool A, where they will face Tunisia, Iran, and Egypt.
Bagunas (knee) and Espejo (ankle) will shoulder the offensive load for a 14-man roster that blends battle-tested veterans with rising collegiate standouts.
The powerhouse duo first captured national attention in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, when they spearheaded the Philippines’ stunning silver-medal finish.
Now, they aim to recreate that magic on an even bigger stage at the World Championship.

Joining Bagunas and Espejo in the outside hitter rotation are young guns Buds Buddin, Louie Ramirez, and Jade Disquitado.
Orchestrating the offense is steady playmaker Owa Retamar, who has grown into the team’s trusted floor general since his breakout in the 2019 SEA Games.
Former De La Salle University setter Eco Adajar will be providing backup.
In the middle blocker position, veteran Kim Malabunga anchors the unit with leadership, while Peng Taguibolos brings size and energy and Lloyd Josafat adds athleticism and versatility.
At opposite hitter, Leo Ordiales is expected to serve as a key scoring option, likely sharing duties with the versatile Ramirez.
Defensive stability will be provided by liberos Josh Ybañez, Jack Kalingking, and Vince Lorenzo.
Italian head coach Angiolino Frigoni will call the shots for Alas Pilipinas, bringing with him a wealth of international experience.
He will be supported by fellow Italian Alejandro Aldana and some of the finest minds in local volleyball — Odjie Mamon, Dante Alinsunurin, and Dexter Clamor.
