Ateneo president shares Tai Bundit, Lady Eagles smooth things out

Ateneo de Manila University president Fr. Jett Villarin is calling for unity, not only from the Lady Eagles, but also from the community.

In a statement he released via Facebook, the beloved Ateneo figure shared that he had met with estranged coach Tai Bundit, the University Athletics Office, and the Lady Eagles. In the separate meetings, Villarin hashed out a mutual agreement from all parties to work together to make their UAAP Season 80 campaign a success.

“In view of all this, I am happy to announce that both Coach Tai and the Ateneo Women’s Volleyball Team will continue to work together to make this season’s campaign successful,” the statement read.

Bundit will now coach the Lady Eagles for the fifth season after a tumultuous month that saw his relationship with his team suffer off the court.

In the same statement, Villarin pleaded for more tact from the Ateneo community, as the coach Tai issue also severely split the Ateneans on social media.

“The team’s concerns, I must say, are legitimate, and so we will address these moving forward. I am asking the Athletics Office to assist in addressing these concerns and to help in the healing process,” Villarin added.
