WUBS champ NCCU arrives for tuneups with Strong Group, collegiate teams

The top collegiate team in this region is preparing to engage in tune-up matches against some of the best teams in the country.

National Chengchi University (NCCU), the reigning champion of the World University Basketball Series, arrived in the country on Wednesday for a packed schedule.

Strong Group Athletics is hosting the team during their stay.

During the first three days of their visit, the Griffins will face off against College of Saint Benilde, Converge, and De La Salle University.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to compete against one of the top universities in Asia. Matches like these against stronger teams contribute to our improvement,” said Blazers head coach Charles Tiu, who is also arranging a tune-up game for the visitors against another team, thanks to the connections of Boss Frank Lao.

After a one-day break on September 3, NCCU will travel to Tagaytay for consecutive matches against Guang Ming College.

Upon returning on September 6, they will once again compete against the FiberXers.

NCCU will conclude their series with a match against University of the Philippines in Los Banos.

The Griffins will return to Taiwan on September 9.

The Griffins are coming off a triumphant campaign in the WUBS, where they showcased their dominance throughout the competition.

In the final, NCCU emerged victorious by defeating home team Hakuo University, with a score of 90-84.

The team is led by their prominent big man, Mouhamed Lamine Mbaye.
