Needing to keep up with the rest of the league, the University of the East Red Warriors are planning to beef up their line-up with Diliman College Blue Dragons’ Senegalese student-athlete Adama Diakhite.
In a social media post by Red Warriors assistant coach Paul Artadi, the 6-foot-9 big man was practicing with the team, Friday.
Incoming Red Warriors head coach Joe Silva confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
“He just showed up in practice,” the two-time UAAP Juniors Basketball champion mentor said. “Not sure yet, as of now he is still in Diliman College. Still waiting for management to finalize things.
“But if ever everything pans out he will enroll for this school.”
For the last four years, UE has refrained from lining-up foreign student-athletes. The last two were Charles Mammie and Moustapha Arafat, both of whom were last seen in the UAAP back in Season 77.
Times are different this time around though as the rest of the league have loaded up with foreign big men.
“We are actively pursuing him.”
Diakhite just turned 21 years old last April. He will have to sit out a year before being eligible for the UAAP Season 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
