The quiet confidence of Terrence Romeo

Terrence Romeo continues to develop his game from one that is flat-out exciting to one that is clever and helps the GlobalPort Batang Pier succeed — while still retaining the elements of his patented showtime antics.

The higher-seeded Globalport Batang Pier had a rough start in their quarter-final match-up against Barako Bull Energy on Friday night, and trailed by 7, 48-41 entering the halftime break.

Romeo was a mere 2-for-12 from the field and only had five points. It was a version of himself which tried to force too much on the floor.

By the second half’s start, Romeo was a totally different player. He had more hunger to succeed and was motivated not to let his team down. He had that fire in his eyes that was determined to end the series against Barako right then and there.

Romeo was able to lift the Batang Pier to a 94-85 win, the franchise’s first-ever playoff win as they move ahead to the second phase.

“Kailangan hindi ka mawalan ng kumpiyansa. Medyo nagulat kasi kami sa depensa ng Barako. Buti nakapag-adjust kami noong second half,” Romeo said after the game. “Sinabi lang sa akin ni Coach Pido (Jarencio) papasok rin ang tira ko at kunin ko lang sa flow (ng laro).”

He made excellent use of his insane skills by playing them to his advantage, while staying smart and knowing when to fire shots or make decisions.

By gaining the maturity on the floor and a reliable supporting crew to allow him to do a plethora of things, Romeo is helping his team win while also making it enjoyable to watch for everyone.

And Romeo hopes to do the same every time. “Sana magtuloy-tuloy. Sana maging consistent,” said GlobalPort’s silent assassin.

It is clear Romeo’s game is still growing and is translating into better news for his team.
