San Miguel will not have its rock when it takes on Rhenz Abando and Anyang KGC on Friday at Okinawa.
The Beermen will not risk playing June Mar Fajardo for the rest of the regional meet after suffering a left knee injury during their game against Ryukyu on Thursday evening at Utsunomiya.
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano clashed knees with Jack Cooley early in the first quarter of the game.
During the post-game press conference, San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent bared that they would no longer risk playing Fajardo and they will only get an MRI once they get to Manila.
“The status of June Mar, I don’t know,” said Gallent after their 96-68 loss at the hands of the Golden Kings.
“I heard that when we go back to Manila, he’s going to get an MRI. We just have to wait for that. I just hope it’s nothing serious. I just hope that he gets healthy real quick.”
Fajardo will be a tough loss for the Beermen as they take on Anyang in a do-or-die clash. The KGC-backed squad defeated P.League+ champion Taipei Fubon, 94-69, on opening day.
In their game against the Golden Kings though, Gallent said that having Fajardo would have been a big help for their cause.
“You know, June Mar is a good presence inside and a good rebounder. That was the main thing. We were just outrebounded and it really hurt us. When they were crashing the boards, they hit at least four or five three-pointers from that,” he said.
“I’m not saying that he will get all of the boards but if June Mar is there, he would help us get more defensive boards.”
San Miguel was outrebounded 52-33.
