The Philippines’ quest to make it to the FIFAe Nations Cup 2021 met a disappointing end.
Needing to finish at least a third place to make it to the playoffs, Jorrel “RellyClips” Aristorenas and Renard “PitchBlack_6969” Yu succumbed to losses at the hands of their counterparts from New Zealand and Japan in the 2021 FIFAe Nations Online Qualifiers, Friday.
Coming from humbling defeats against Malaysia and Australia, it was Yu, still on Xbox duty, who was able to seal a win for the Philippines today when he secured a 1-0 outcome against Japan’s Sho Nakashima (Agu) in the fifth round of the competition.
Beforehand, in round four, Yu succumbed to a 0-2 loss at the hands of New Zealand’s Sean Baines (Bainesy), who suits up for the esports team of Wellington Phoenix Football Club.
For his part, Aristorenas, who continued to play on PlayStation, failed to secure a win after finishing two tight matches.
The former United City player suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat at the hands of New Zealand’s Joshua King (DW JMKKing) in the fourth round of the competition.
Aristorenas then could only muster a 2-2 stalemate against Japan’s SZ Jay in what was his final fixture in the tournament.
Ultimately, Aristorenas and Yu were able to muster one win each with the former securing two draws and a defeat while the latter had three losses in his name in the qualifying phase
The results left the Philippines at fourth place in Group A with 8 points, with Australia clinching third place with nine points.
Malaysia won the group with 19 points while Japan followed with 13. New Zealand finished last with seven points.
