The Philippine Women’s National Futsal Team kicked off its 2024 ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship campaign with a 2-2 draw against Myanmar on Saturday night at the Philsport Arena in Pasig.
Muntinlupa City native Isabella Bandoja scored the country’s first goal of the tournament, giving the Pinay5 a dream start just 12 minutes into the match.
“Siguro ang masasabi ko lang po ay sobrang, sobrang saya,” said Bandoja. “Opening goal nga po at dagdag score din po. Sobrang saya po talaga.”
However, Myanmar fought back with two goals.
Lwin Lwin Thet equalized for the visitors in the 25th minute, while Yoon Mie Mie Lwin gave them the lead in the 32nd minute.
Substitute Agot Danton leveled the score for the Philippines in the 33rd minute, ensuring both teams walked away with a point each.
“What I also found out now, and I hope the players understand, is the physicality of the game,” said Philippines head coach Vic Hermans. “But I’m satisfied with the draw. I cannot say anything else.”
Both teams will return to action tomorrow night at the same venue. Myanmar will face Vietnam at 4 p.m., while the Philippines will take on Thailand at 7 p.m.
