PBA games will still take place even if Metro Manila is now under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions anew after the confirmed local transmission of the COVID-19 Delta variant.
In a report by PBA.ph, the league was able to secure a special permit to carry on with its Philippine Cup games amidst tighter lockdown measures, according to the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
“May special permit kasi ang PBA. And they submitted strict guidelines for health protocols,” MMDA General Manager Usec. Jojo Garcia said.
The national government has again placed the capital under the slightly stricter GCQ HR. This comes after the Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday confirmed local transmission of the more virulent Delta variant.
NCR — along with Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Davao del Norte, and Davao de Oro — will be under the said quarantine classification from July 23 to 31.
Ilocos Norte served as home to both TNT and Meralco, as the MVP-owned teams held their respective training camps there. Currently, the province is hosting the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference.
With PBA games still a go, matches at the Ynares Sports Arena will be played as scheduled. Barangay Ginebra (0-1) battles Blackwater (0-2) at 3:00 PM., while NLEX (1-1) plays San Miguel (0-1) at 6:00 PM.
