Meralco will still go with Johnny O’Bryant in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup meeting with San Miguel on Saturday.
The Bolts are supposed to parade new import Jessie Govan in the 4:30 p.m. bout at the Ynares Center in Antipolo, but the American exceeded the 6-foot-10 height limit after being measured in the league’s office in Libis.
Formerly of G League Ignite, the 25-year-old was tapped to replace the ex-NBA cager after the ball club tasted little success with him in tow, having won just once in the six games they have played thus far in the tilt.
O’Bryant is currently averaging 26.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.3 steals but left Meralco searching for a new one after a paltry seven-point outing in their 89-82 defeat to Phoenix Super LPG last October 19.
But the team will have to stick with the 29-year-old for at least against the Beermen, who’s entering the match with a mini two-game winning streak as new import Devon Scott is slowly finding his niche with the star-studded squad.
The Bolts are just hoping to snap out of their three-game losing skid with the aim to keep their playoff hopes alive.
