Venky Jois looks set for another PBA stint as NorthPort brought back its former import in a switch pulled off just days into the Season 49 Governors’ Cup.
The development was made public by the league through its official website on Thursday, a day before the Batang Pier’s duel with Terrafirma.
The Australian forward is expected to suit up in the said game set at 5:00 PM at the SMART Araneta Coliseum in a battle between Group A teams.
While there’s no question about familiarity since Jois reinforced NorthPort in the last Commissioner’s Cup, it was an intriguing move from the team considering that Taylor Johns impressed in their season debut versus TNT last Tuesday.
The Batang Pier did bow to a 101-95 decision but the veteran journeyman from California produced 36 points, 16 rebounds, and nine assists.
But then, NorthPort is rolling anew with Jois, who helped the squad reach the quarterfinals behind per-game averages of 23.9 points, 15.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and 2.3 blocks in 41.2 minutes of play.
