NCAA 91 Women’s Beach Volleyball Day 3: San Beda on a roll!

In the third day of the NCAA Season 91 Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament held at the Boardwalk Beach in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, the San Beda Red Lady Spikers continued their winning ways as they have yet to lose a match with an 8-0 record.

The Bedan tandem of Jeziela and Nieza Viray opened the day with a close 25-23, 21-13 over the Letran Lady Knights. As the day passed, the Viray twins were able to continue their momentum as they outlasted the LPU Lady Pirates with a 21-13, 21-23, 15-7 win. Lastly, they capped off their day with a 21-7, 21-19 win over the Arellano Lady Chiefs.

On the other hand, the Gretchel Soltones and Alyssa Eroa duo of the San Sebastian Lady Stags gave College of Saint Benilde’s Jannine Navarro and Melanie Torres their first loss of the tourney with a 21-11, 21-12 beating. The Stags then followed it up with two more wins later as they swiped AU with a 21-8, 21-10 win and the Perpetual Altas with a tough 13-21, 21-11, 15-10 triumph.

With the likes of San Beda, San Sebastian and Benilde occupying the top three spots in the standings, the rest of the pack has the EAC Lady Generals at fourth with a 5-3 card and the Perpetual Lady Altas at fifth with a 4-4 record. LPU and JRU are not far behind with 3-5 and 2-6 records respectively while Mapua and Letran have identical 1-7 cards.

The last day of the elimination round will be tomorrow and the top four teams of each division will automatically advance to the semifinal round which will take place immediately after the final elimination round game. If a team sweeps the entire elimination round, it will automatically advance to the championship round and a stepladder format shall be followed. However, there is no incentive for the team that can accomplish that said feat since the championship round will just be a one-game knockout match.
